§ 25.4.3 Concurrent Jurisdiction and Choice of Forum. The supreme court has original jurisdiction, concurrent with the superior court, over various types of special actions. Ariz. Const. art. 6, § 5; Ariz. Corp. Comm'n v. Superior Court (Ariz. Water Co.), 107 Ariz. 24, 25-26, 480 P.2d 988, 989-90 (1971). The supreme court's original jurisdiction is limited to certain special actions initiated against a state officer, as opposed to a city, county, or other local officer. See Graham v. Moore, 56 Ariz. 106, 108-09, 105 P.2d 962, 963-64 (1940) (mandamus proceeding against the Arizona secretary of state and county boards of supervisors). But see Mann v. Maricopa Cty., 104 Ariz. 561, 563, 456 P.2d 931, 933 (1969) (holding that supreme court had jurisdiction in mandamus action directed against county board of supervisors to prevent it from terminating employment of court employees or removing them from county payroll over superior court judges' objections).
