G. (§19.22) Retaliation
Amendments made to the MHRA in 2017 appear to narrow the scope of § 213.070, RSMo Supp. 2017, which generally covers retaliation. Claims under § 213.070 are now limited to an employer, employment agency, labor organization, or place of public accommodation. Prior versions of the MHRA contained no such limitations, and declared it unlawful:
(1) To aid, abet, incite, compel, or coerce the commission of acts prohibited under [the MHRA,] or to [even] attempt to do so;
(2) To retaliate . . . against any other person because such person has opposed any practice prohibited by [the MHRA] or . . . filed a complaint, testified, assisted, or participated in any manner in any investigation, proceeding or hearing conducted pursuant to [the...
