28-C-1. Finding an Attorney
There are not enough lawyers willing and able to represent prisoners, in part because most prisoner lawsuits do not pay lawyers well. But the ADA and Section 504 do allow the recovery of attorney's fees204: attorneys (and plaintiffs who are representing themselves) can ask for attorney's fees from defendants after winning a case. Courts have found that the PLRA rule that limits recovery of attorney's fees in prisoner lawsuits205 does not apply to ADA or Section 504 claims.206 Even if you do not have a lawyer, you should ask for compensation for lawyer's fees under the ADA and Section 504. You are also entitled to recover your court, or "in pauperis," fees.
